2008 had more ups than downs for us—
hope you can say the same.
- A mission trip to Tanzania constructing a birthing center for International Health Partners (featured recently in the Des Moines Sunday Register) was a life-changing experience. They say there are 3 places you must see—Africa, Africa and Africa. We would return in a heartbeat.
- Work we enjoy—Ken, as tool engineer at Bruin Mfg., Jane at Walker & Billingsley & Nathan at the Fareway meat counter in Ames or Newton during breaks.
- Nathan & Kendra (ISU Sr & Soph) have majors that fit—business for Nathan & kinesiology for Kendra. Kendra hopes her rugby team will win a national title. She’s the team “hooker.”
- Michael (Jr at Newton HS) revised his career plans after being in Africa. He’s learning Swahili for a foreign service posting or maybe the Peace Corps.
- Michael & Edward, our exchange student from Tanzania, spent spring break with the band in Orlando. When Edward found out, just before leaving, that Orlando is home to Disneyworld, he was so excited he couldn’t sleep!
- We just received a sad note from Edward saying his father passed away from high blood pressure—how we take our health care for granted.
- At 80, Jane’s mother is active and well. She & our Sheltie, Milo, bonded while they were together last July.
- President-elect Obama. Don’t we all wish him well!
- Ken’s mother (86 last week) broke her femur & is in a nursing home until she can begin rehab. She hopes to be home for Christmas.
- Kendra will be on a liquid diet for a month after jaw surgery December 23.
- Our cat Shawna succumbed to old age. While we delayed having her littermate, Charlena, put to sleep, she made a miraculous recovery.
- After 3 weeks in Africa we missed Y Family Camp—the 1st time since 1990.
